This information is intended to serve as a general guideline only! Should you
encounter a problem with
unemployment, you should direct your concern to your Local Unemployment
Office. Should you experience
difficulties with SUB we encourage you to direct your concern to the Ford
Employment Office.
FILE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT IMMEDIATELY
It’s important that you file for Unemployment Compensation during the week of
shutdown or layoff. If it has
been more then one year since you last filed a claim, your first week of layoff will
be considered your waiting

IS THIS YOUR WAITING WEEK?
If you have not filed an unemployment claim anywhere in the U.S. within the last
12 months your first week of
layoff will be considered a waiting week. Your claim should be made during the
week of layoff.
Waiting weeks can be filed one of two ways:
Visit your Local Office in person
File online anytime 24 hours a day 7 days a week at: www.ides.state.il.us
If you chose to file online your first time through the filing process can take up to
about 30 minutes. Once you
finish be sure to print out your “claim summary” which contains your “confirmation
number.”
Regardless of how you file, make your claim during the week in which you are off!
If you were working in
another plant when you filed your last claim you may need to contact your last
Unemployment Office by phone.
IF THIS ISN’T YOUR WAITING WEEK…
If you have filed a claim within the last 12 months and served your waiting week
you’ll need to call
TELESERVE at 1-888-337-7234 to reopen your claim and certify for weeks you
are unemployed. Phone lines
are open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday thru Friday. Be sure to call during the
week in which you are laid off!
Calls can be made from any where within the United States. Do not call from a cell
phone or cordless phone as
it may lead to problems. After your call you will receive a “Statement of
Certification” in the mail which will
indicate your next call date. The State requires you to certify for benefits every 2
weeks. It is vital that you call
back on your regular call day even after you have returned to work. You must
again request your benefits for
each 2 week period after the 2 weeks have ended. Missing your regular call day
may delay benefits and/or
create problems for future claims.
If you miss your assigned call day of Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, you may
call on Thursday or Friday of
that same week. If you forget to call during the assigned week, be sure to call
back the following week on your
assigned call day! Again you should know that if you miss your regular call day
you might delay benefits and
create problems for future claims.
If you have a problem or do not receive your wage information sheet or statement
of certification within 2 weeks
from the date you filed your claim, you should report in person to your local
office. The UAW can’t change the
procedures of the State of Illinois. Additional questions should be directed to your
LOCAL
UNEMPLOYMENT OFFICE or the HARVEY UNEMPLOYMENT OFFICE AT 708-
596-2325.
AUTO SUB PROCEDURES
Your Local Union Leadership worked diligently to get our plant signed up to Auto
Sub. This process reduces
the number of times you need to manually sign up for SUB pay in the plant. If you
follow proper procedure
when filing your unemployment claim with the State of Illinois you may only need to
file manually for SUB1 time
within a 12 month period. Thereafter the State Unemployment Office will submit
your SUB information directly
to Ford's Payroll Operations after you file your Unemployment Claim. A SUB
check will then be mailed
directly to you within 3 weeks or less. Please be sure that your current address
information is on file at the
plant. If you have direct deposit your SUB check will be deposited automatically.
DID YOU JUST SERVE YOUR WAITING WEEK FOR UNEMPLOYMENT?
If this is the first time you have filed for unemployment within the last 12 months
you are serving your waiting
week and will need to file for SUB manually in the plant. The procedure is outlined
below.
When filing manually you must bring:
A) A recent pay check stub (your claim may be delayed if you are claiming 99
exemptions)
B) Claimant Wage Information sheet (sent from the IL Dept. of Employment
Security)
C) SUB application (this is the stub attached to your last sub pay check)
D) Apply for SUB within 60 days of the layoff
After submitting these things a SUB check will be mailed to you within 3 weeks. Be
sure your address is up to
date and save the stub from this check for future use.
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SERVED A WAITING WEEK
Call TELESERVE the week you are off. When you get your Wage information
sheet in the mail it will give you a
another call back date. When you call back the call will trigger your
Unemployment Check to be sent out. This
will also trigger the State to forward your information to Ford so Ford can send out
your SUB check. Your
SUB check will come within 3 weeks from the time you receive your Unemployment
check. Remember calling
TELESERVE on the proper dates, answering questions correctly and following
proper procedure with the State
will initiate both checks.
In the rare event that you already served a waiting week but were rejected from
unemployment for acceptable
reasons, then you will need to submit a SUB application manually. See LRO or
the Employment Office for
details.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR SUB:
1) Must have at least one year seniority prior to the week of layoff.
2) Must follow proper procedure with the State and file for Unemployment
Compensation to determine
eligibility for Unemployment benefits during periods of layoff.
HOW MUCH MONEY WILL I RECEIVE?
SUB pay is 95% of your net pay (the “net” is your after tax take home pay) less
$30.00 and mandatory
deductions such as federal taxes, state taxes, fica and medicare. SUB pay may
be reduced based on any other
income you receive, such as unemployment compensation, certain occasions of
holiday pay, vacation pay, social
security, wages from another job etc. Each persons net pay is impacted by the
number of exemptions or
dependents you claim on your weekly pay check. If you don’t claim all legal
exemptions for your weekly
payroll withholdings, you have a right to do so for SUB. You may be required to
prove you’re entitled to the
exemptions at the time you apply for SUB. General information on SUB can be
found on P. 170—172 of the
big yellow benefits book.
